Iannis Xenakis - Orchestral Works Vol. 4

This album contains recordings of four orchestral works by the influential modernist composer Iannis Xenakis. Xenakis integrated techniques from mathematics as part of his methodology, but his music sounds remarkably organic in any case(I understand that he was often frustrated that people put too much emphasis on his use of set theory and the like - it wasn't that big of a part of his methods in his later years). I will probably follow this up eventually with an excerpt of what I think are the best pieces in a large collection of his percussion pieces that I have, because they are probably Xenakis at his best. For now, though, enjoy the sound of Xenakis composing something other than 30 minute all-percussion epics.

This collection, though only a few pieces, spans much of his career. The earliest piece is from the 60's and I believe the most recent one is from 1991.
