LUBRICATED GOAT - PLAYS THE DEVIL'S MUSIC: NOISY AMREP SWAMP PUNK FOR PERVERTS

Lubricated Goat were one of a handful of Australian post-punk bands who, along with King Snake Roost, feedtime, Thug, and Mark of Cain, were described as having a "grungy" sound before that term was adopted by MTV to describe any long-haired rock group from the Pacific Northwest in the early 90s. "The Goat", as they were known to their friends, combined the noisy aggression of "Junkyard" era The Birthday Party with a swampy version of Stooges style garage punk to create a sound that was nasty and ugly but fun at the same time. The closest comparison I can make sound-wise would be their Amrep label mates The Crows and the aforementioned Steel Pole Bathtub, but Lubricated Goat stand out as one of the most inventive and truly original noise-punk bands of the late 80's.
